Orange Revolution Texas Premiere Screening

The Orange Revolution followed the events of 2004 in the Ukraine, in which rampant corruption and the poisoning of a presidential candidate triggered a popular uprising that restored democracy and achieved a political revolution without a single bullet. Despite freezing temperatures, nearly a million people gathered in downtown Kiev to protest an improperly conducted election and to show support for a new regime. The film follows the poisoning and disfigurement of opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko that served as the spark of the revolution, the development of the tent city and peaceful protests in Kiev and the ultimate resolution by the Ukrainian Supreme Court that resolved the election in favor of Yushchenko.
Steve York, the film's director and producer, participated in a Q&A session after the film with Jack DuVall, the president and founding director of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict and Lester Kurtz, a professor of sociology at UT-Austin and an expert on non-violent conflict. The panelists discussed topics ranging from the film's production techniques to the current state of political affairs in the Ukraine.
