Speaker Series
European Union Center of Excellence
The EU Center of Excellence works to spur dialogue on the common challenges facing Europe and the United States and seeks to create opportunities for Europeans and Americans to discuss and evaluate competing policy solutions. The Center also works to increase awareness of European issues in Texas and creates possibilities for forging common ground on major issues within the Atlantic alliance. The EU Center hosts conferences and workshops on issues such as energy policy, technology, immigration, and cross-border crime. Idea-sharing is promoted through student exchanges and research projects, as well as by bringing visiting scholars from the European Union to the University of Texas. The Center works with the private sector and local and state government officials on regulatory and economic development issues.
International Security Film Series
The International Security Film Series screens new and forthcoming documentaries and feature films on topics of global concern, including ethnic conflict and humanitarian intervention. Each screening is followed by an audience discussion with the film's director and/or other experts.
International Security Speaker Series
Preventing war and stopping mass violence remain some of the greatest challenges of international relations. The International Security Speaker Series features leading scholars and policy practitioners discussing challenges and solutions for meeting the security demands of the modern world.
Jon Brumley Chair in Global Affairs
The Jon Brumley Chair in Global Affairs explores a fundamental dilemma. Technology produces enormous benefits, but it also creates new dangers. Nuclear technology can be used to generate energy or to build bombs. Gene-splitting can be used to produce life-saving drugs or to devise lethal biological weapons. The Jon Brumley Chair funds programs that examine current and past efforts to reconcile technological advances with security needs, particularly the world’s struggle to contain the menace of nuclear proliferation. The chair also supports activities to examine future challenges created by advances in fields ranging from genetics to telecommunications to nanotechnology.

The Technology, Innovation and Global Security Speaker Series brings world-renowned experts to campus to discuss how to sustain innovation and prevent modern technology from being misused.
